Aplicor Web 2.0 Progress & Update
As is typical when I'm approaching a quarterly executive team retreat, I'm reviewing MBO (management by objectives) progress - or lack thereof - and trying to understand the more influential factors along with their relationships to our progress. As I'm not yet achieving our initial Web 2.0 objectives, this exercise escalates to also look at some root cause analysis.
One the positive side, we've received, categorized and tabulated quite a bit of client generated content - primarily in the form of product ideas and suggestions. Although to be fair, I've had to grease the skids and reach out to several clients in order to request (maybe beg) that they consider more proactively engaging any Aplicor resource or using the Aplicor forums (this blog, the Client Portal, the Partner Portal or the Aplicor Forum) to share their ideas, recommendations, frustrations or any other commentary that would facilitate dialogue and our mutual path to a superior hosted business partnership.

As can be seen in the above image which I'll be using at our retreat, 34% of the short-listed future development efforts originated from clients (and one analyst and one friend of the company). You may recall from a prior blog post last March that we set the goal to source 55 percent of all new product innovation from client generated content by March 31, 2008. While I'm a bit concerned about making the original goal, I'm somewhat encouraged as the rate of new content and product suggestions is increasing with time. Also, notwithstanding our objective measurement goal, it's important to note that we've gained more user input than in any prior similar time period and have achieved more critical mass on several topics than could ever be obtained from a focus group.
While client generated content used to influence our hosted CRM and ERP product direction is only one of several Web 2.0 goals, I must admit that this particular goal is a bell whether objective, receives the most client participation, gets the most talk within the Aplicor hallways and is likely to be the most influential data source when items get short-listed and scheduled.
I've also been pleased that we've received some byproduct benefits in the forms of increased client email exchanges and a few industry recognized endorsements, including:
OK, I admit it, I'm tooting my own horn now and will cease this blog comment on that note; other than to say stand by as we continue our social media progress and reporting of results in future posts.
